Sataya Reef is located about 12 kilometers off the Hamata shoreline, in Egypt’s southern Red Sea region. The site is accessible only by boat, typically through day trips or liveaboard excursions departing from Marsa Alam or Hamata marina.

Diving Highlights

Dolphin Encounters: Sataya is famous for frequent and close interactions with large pods of spinner dolphins, sometimes numbering 60-80 individuals. Divers and snorkelers can swim with these dolphins in their natural habitat since the reef’s lagoon is a known resting place for these social marine mammals.

Coral Gardens: The reef offers brilliant coral formations, both soft and hard, that host a diverse community of reef fish, rays, turtles, and sometimes even barracudas and reef sharks in deeper waters.

Lagoon and Caves: Sataya features a sheltered shallow lagoon, ideal for novice divers, plus dramatic drop-offs and underwater cave-like canyons that serve as highlights for advanced dive excursions.

Visibility and Conditions: Water clarity is excellent, frequently up to 30 meters, with comfortably warm conditions year-round (23°C in winter to about 29°C in summer).
